Float therapy for back pain and physical tension in Yarraville.
Back pain is one of the most common reasons people come to Tally Floathouse. The combination of complete weightlessness, skin-temperature water, and 500kg of Epsom salt creates an environment where the body can release physical tension in ways that are difficult to achieve anywhere else. No gravity. No pressure. Just stillness.

Why weightlessness makes a difference.
Float therapy — also known as sensory deprivation or REST (Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy) — places you in a private pod filled with warm water saturated with over 500kg of Epsom salt. The salt creates a buoyancy so complete that your body floats effortlessly on the surface, completely free from gravity and pressure.
For anyone carrying tension in the lower back, hips, shoulders or spine, this matters. In everyday life — whether sitting at a desk, standing on a worksite, or training — the body is constantly working against gravity. Even lying in bed doesn't fully remove that load. In a float pod, it does.
Many guests describe a spreading release through the lower back and hips within the first 20–30 minutes of a session — areas they didn't realise were holding tension until the pressure was gone.
Who comes to Tally for back pain relief.
From our experience page, the guests who visit Tally for physical reasons tend to include:
People managing chronic pain, tension headaches, or tight shoulders
Athletes recovering from training who enjoy the benefits of magnesium-rich water and weightless floating as part of their recovery routine
Busy professionals carrying the physical effects of long hours at a desk
Tradies and physically active workers dealing with back pain or recovering from injury
Anyone dealing with muscle soreness, physical tension, and fatigue
Whatever brings you in, our approach is the same: a calm, unhurried session in a private float suite, designed to help you leave feeling meaningfully better than when you arrived.

Epsom salt and magnesium — what the water does.
The 500kg of Epsom salt dissolved in each float pod is magnesium sulphate. Magnesium is absorbed through the skin during your session and plays a role in muscle function and relaxation. Many guests who float regularly as part of a recovery routine mention the magnesium absorption as one of the reasons they keep coming back.
The water is maintained at 35.5°C — calibrated to match your body's natural warmth — so the boundary between you and the water gently dissolves. There's no sensation of being hot or cold. The body simply floats, and the water does the rest.
Combining float therapy with
infrared sauna.
Many guests managing back pain or physical tension combine a float session with our infrared sauna — and consistently describe the combination as more effective than either experience alone.
The sauna comes first. Infrared heat penetrates deep into muscle tissue, increasing circulation and loosening tight muscles before you enter the float pod. When the body arrives at the float already warm and relaxed, the transition into deeper release happens faster and goes further.
Our 30 Minute Infrared Sauna & 60 Minute Float combo is $99 and is one of our most popular sessions. If you're coming specifically for physical recovery or tension relief, this is worth considering.
Please note: your booked time is for your float session. Arrive 40 minutes early for your sauna.

What a session looks like at Tally Floathouse.
Every float at Tally Floathouse follows the same simple structure — designed so that the transition from the outside world begins the moment you arrive, not when you close the pod.
Arrive
We recommend arriving 10–15 minutes before your session. For first-time guests, we walk you through everything. There's nothing to figure out on your own.
Shower
A quick shower before entering the pod is part of the process. Everything you need is provided in your private float suite.
Float
60 or 90 minutes in complete stillness. Light and sound can be reduced to near zero. Most guests find the first 10–15 minutes is a transition period, with the deeper physical release coming in the second half of the session.
Unwind
After your session, our relaxation lounge is yours. Complimentary herbal tea is included. Take your time — this part of the experience matters too.
