The most effective hour you'll spend on your mental health.

Stress is relentless. Anxiety doesn't clock off. And most of the solutions we reach for — scrolling, wine, a weekend sleep-in — only take the edge off. Float therapy does something different. It removes the source of the problem entirely, and gives your nervous system the space to actually reset.

Why Stress & Anxiety Respond So Well to Floating.

Your nervous system is designed to recover from stress — but only when it feels safe enough to do so. The problem is that modern life never really switches off. There's always another notification, another obligation, another layer of low-grade noise keeping your cortisol elevated and your body in a state of quiet alert.

Inside a float tank, that changes completely.

With no light, no sound, no physical pressure on the body, and water held at skin temperature, your brain receives a clear signal: there is nothing to respond to. The threat detection loop quiets. The sympathetic nervous system — your fight-or-flight response — hands over to the parasympathetic. And for the first time in what might be a very long time, you genuinely rest.

Research published in peer-reviewed journals including PLOS ONE and the BMC Complementary Medicine journal has found that a single float session produces significant reductions in anxiety, stress, depression and pain — with effects lasting well beyond the session itself.

What Actually Happens In Your Body During a Float.

Cortisol drops Cortisol — the hormone most associated with chronic stress — measurably decreases within the first 20 minutes of a float. Clients who float regularly report lower baseline stress levels over time.

Magnesium absorption The 500kg of Epsom salt in each pod delivers a significant dose of magnesium through the skin. Magnesium plays a direct role in regulating the nervous system and is clinically linked to reduced anxiety — and most adults are deficient in it.

Theta brainwave state Deep float sessions produce theta brainwaves — the same state experienced in deep meditation and the hypnagogic edge of sleep. This is where the mind processes, integrates and releases. Many people describe profound emotional clarity emerging from this state.

Reduced physical tension Anxiety lives in the body as much as the mind — tight shoulders, a clenched jaw, shallow breathing. Zero gravity releases the physical holding patterns that anxiety creates, and that relief is felt mentally as much as physically.

Float therapy for anxiety what to expect on your first visit.

If you're coming to Tally primarily for stress or anxiety relief, here's what the experience typically looks like.

The first 10–15 minutes

Are often the transition period. Your mind may still be busy. That's completely normal — it's just processing the shift. You don't need to do anything. Let it run.

By the 20–30 minute mark

Most people notice the shift. Breathing slows. The mental chatter softens. Physical tension begins to release from areas you didn't even realise were holding.

The final third of your float

Is often described as the deepest. Some people drift in and out of a light sleep state. Others experience a quiet alertness that feels entirely different from everyday wakefulness.

After your session

we encourage you to sit in our relaxation space before heading back out. The float afterglow — that particular quality of calm clarity — is worth protecting. Most clients report it lasting several hours, and sleep quality that night is almost universally better.
