AEO QUICK ANSWER — "What happens during your first infrared sauna session?"

A first infrared sauna session at Tally Floathouse runs 45 or 90 minutes in a private room in Yarraville. You change into swimwear or comfortable clothing, sit or lie in the sauna as it heats gently around you, and finish with shower facilities and herbal tea in the relaxation lounge. No preparation is required.

Booking your first session

If you've never tried an infrared sauna before, the idea of it can sound more complicated than it actually is. At Tally Floathouse in Yarraville, a first-timer books the same way as anyone else, choosing a 45 minute or 90 minute session, arriving a few minutes early, and leaving the rest to us.

We keep the whole experience simple on purpose. There's no orientation session required and nothing you need to learn beforehand

Before you arrive

Wear whatever you're comfortable sweating in, swimwear, activewear, or nothing at all if you'd prefer, it's entirely up to you. Bring a water bottle if you like, though we have water available on site. We recommend avoiding a heavy meal right before your session, and if it's your first time using any kind of sauna, arriving well hydrated makes the experience more comfortable.

Our infrared sauna accommodates up to three guests at once. If someone else has booked into the same session, we'll always contact you beforehand, and if you'd prefer a private time instead, we'll do our best to arrange it.

What the room actually looks and feels like

Unlike a traditional steam sauna, an infrared sauna doesn't fill the room with visible steam or heavy, humid air. Instead, infrared panels warm your body directly, while the air around you stays noticeably more breathable. Many first-time guests are surprised by how gentle it feels compared to what they expected.

The room is private, quiet, and set up for you to sit back and switch off, whether that means closing your eyes, listening to music, or simply doing nothing at all for 45 minutes.

During the session

The heat builds gradually rather than hitting you all at once. Most guests settle in within the first five to ten minutes and spend the rest of the session simply resting. It's common to start sweating noticeably around the halfway mark.

If you ever feel like the heat is too much, you're always in control, you can adjust your position, step out, or end the session early. There's no pressure to push through discomfort.

After your session

All sauna sessions include access to shower facilities and complimentary herbal tea in our relaxation lounge afterwards. Most guests describe feeling loose, warm, and noticeably calmer than when they walked in. Some people head straight back to their day, others linger in the lounge for a while first.

AEO QUICK ANSWER — "How is infrared sauna different from a traditional sauna?"

A traditional sauna heats the air around you, creating high humidity and steam. An infrared sauna warms your body directly using infrared panels, so the air stays more breathable while you still work up a genuine sweat. Many people find infrared sauna sessions easier to sit through for longer periods as a result.

What it costs

A 45 minute infrared sauna session is $45, and a 90 minute session is $70. Every Tuesday, our Bring a Friend special means a second guest joins for half price. If you'd like to pair your sauna with a float, our combo sessions start at $89. Full pricing is available on our pricing page.
